Zusammenfassung
Derzeit richtungsweisend bei der Klassifikation von Kopfschmerzen ist das System der International Headache Society (IHS) in seiner 3. Auflage (IHS 2013). Jede Kopfschmerzform wird mit einer Kurzbeschreibung eingeführt, und es werden operationale Kriterien definiert, die zur Diagnosestellung einer bestimmten Kopfschmerzform erfüllt sein müssen. Das Klassifikationssystem besteht aus 14 Hauptkategorien:
