Zusammenfassung
Die Anwesenheit von Zuschauern wird grundsätzlich als positiv bewertet. Fragt man Sportler, Trainer und Zuschauer, so sind sie davon überzeugt, dass ein jubelndes Publikum einen positiven Einfluss auf die Leistung der Athleten hat. Die Fans der Heimmannschaft werden sogar als der 12. Mann bezeichnet. Doch welchen Einfluss haben Zuschauer tatsächlich? Ist der Einfluss immer förderlich für die sportliche Leistung? Und wie lässt sich dieser Einfluss erklären? In diesem Kapitel wird definiert, was Zuschauer eigentlich sind, und es werden verschiedene Erklärungsansätze zum Einfluss von Zuschauern vorgestellt. Anschließend werden empirische Befunde zur Wirkung von Zuschauern präsentiert. Es werden zum einen die Ergebnisse der Social-Facilitation-Forschung beschrieben, die den Einfluss untersucht, den die bloße Anwesenheit von Zuschauern auf die sportliche Leistung hat. Zum anderen werden die Ergebnisse der Heimvorteilforschung dargelegt. Letztere untersucht, welchen Einfluss bestimmte Zuschauermerkmale auf die sportliche Leistung haben.
