Zusammenfassung
In vielen Bereichen unseres Lebens gehören wir Gruppen an, die zum Teil eine hohe Verantwortung tragen und in ihren Entscheidungen umsetzen. Das Sprichwort „Jede Kette ist nur so stark wie ihr schwächstes Glied“ rät uns davon ab, Gruppen eine solche Bedeutung beizumessen. Gestützt wird es von psychologischen Effekten wie dem sozialen Faulenzen, Trittbrettfahren und Trotteleffekt sowie durch das Herdenverhalten, Hidden Profile und 2-6-2-Prinzip. Demgegenüber steht jedoch Evidenz für einen hohen Wert von Gruppen, welchen das Gegensprichwort „Verbunden werden auch die Schwachen mächtig“ nahelegt. Der psychologische Nutzen von Gruppen für soziale Identität und Selbstwert, der Köhler-Effekt und die soziale Erleichterung sowie das Stanford-Prison-Experiment und die Theorie des Gruppendenkens legen dies nahe. Als Fazit mag festgehalten werden, dass zwar beide Sprichwörter individuell zutreffen, Gruppen unter den richtigen Rahmenbedingungen aber meist zur wertvollen Ressource werden können.
