Abstract
An important factor that has led to the widespread commercial use of thermoelectric refrigeration is the development of the module. Here it is shown how a module is selected for a particular application. It is also shown how modules are designed so as to minimise losses associated with electrical contact resistance and heat transfer other than through the thermoelements. Some typical cooling and heat-pumping applications are mentioned. The behaviour of thermoelectric coolers under transient conditions is discussed. Mention is made of the types of application for which thermoelectric generators are suitable.
