Abstract
There is no single enactment that addresses the transfer of businesses in Canada. Each province, territory, and the federal government has its own legislation and rules that address the disposition of a business. There are a total of fourteen distinct jurisdictions in Canada—the federal jurisdiction, ten provincial jurisdictions, and three territorial jurisdictions. In this chapter, the territorial jurisdictions are included in the references to the provincial jurisdictions.
