Zusammenfassung

Karies und Parodontitis gehören weltweit zu den häufigsten Infektionskrankheiten. Beide Erkrankungen sind durch Veränderungen der mikrobiellen Ökologie der Mundhöhle gekennzeichnet, in deren Verlauf es zur Bildung pathogener bakterieller Biofilme kommt. Bei der Pathogenese der Karies dominieren exogene Risikofaktoren. Im Gegensatz dazu ist bei der Parodontitis neben exogenen Faktoren offenbar auch die genetische Disposition des Wirtes von entscheidender Bedeutung.
