Abstract

As discussed in Chap. 3, versatile nanopatterns can be created through various smart tweaks of the NSL process, such as applying additional deposition and/or dry etch steps on the HCP nanosphere template. As opposed to enhancing light extraction, the sphere-patterned structures described in this chapter act as optical cavities that support resonant mode in the strong confinement regime, enabling blue/violet lasing at room temperature. Two WG cavities, namely the nano-ring array and metal-clad nanopillar arrays, have been fabricated via modified NSL processes and confine prorogating photons along closed circular paths. The morphologies of the resultant ordered nanostructures and the optical characteristics are discussed.
