Abstract
According to Petri, computer science is not limited to information processing, but should also include questions of its acquisition and usage. His view on the overall context is explained in detail for instance in Kommunikationsdisziplinen [17], discussed in the last chapter. In particular, the handling of continuous quantities and their discrete representation plays a prominent role. Beginning with his experiences as artillery assistant in his youth, he became especially interested in the fundamental concepts behind the gathering of information in the context of measurement.
