Abstract
Horizontal large-span structural system regards structure as a serial of independent planar components. The insufficiency of out-of-plane stiffness, strength, and stability put limits on the application of horizontal large-span structures. However, when the restraining action of spatial components is taken into consideration and mutual support and enhancement could be well played, the bearing capacity or the distance spanned over could be greatly increased. Spatial structural system could be regarded as an extension of horizontal large-span structural system with consideration of spatial effects.
