Abstract

Poverty is one of the most serious challenges facing the world today. Since entering the twenty-first century, productivity has been more developed than at any time in the past, and social and material wealth has increased significantly. But large numbers of people still live in poverty, a considerable portion of whom are even threatened with starvation. Moreover, poverty is international and is not a problem relegated only to developing countries. Developed countries too have been vexed by poverty, leading some to refer to poverty as a “perpetual issue” or “super issue” for humanity.
