Der Körper muss von dem überwiegend abbauenden (katabolen) in den aufbauenden (anabolen) Status umschalten. Vermutlich regenerieren junge Individuen durch die hormonelle Situation (u. a. viel freies bioverfügbares Testosteron, das anabol wirkt, als auch viel Wachstumshormon) schneller als ältere.
