Der Ursprung aller biologisch verwertbaren Energie sowohl im Tier- als auch im Pflanzenreich ist zunächst die Sonne (◘ Abb. 1.1). Allerdings kann die Strahlungsenergie direkt nur von Pflanzen genutzt werden (mit Hilfe des grünen Blattfarbstoffes Chlorophyll) und nicht von Mensch und Tier.
