Zusammenfassung
Die Tiefe der ablaufenden Informationsverarbeitung hängt eng mit der Kapazitätsmenge zusammen, die dem Verarbeitungsprozess zur Verfügung steht. Dabei ist die Verarbeitungstiefe nicht nur für das Ergebnis – die Speicherung im Langzeitgedächtnis – von Bedeutung, sondern sie beeinflusst auch den Ablauf der Informationsverarbeitung. In der Informationspsychologie findet sich eine Reihe theoretischer Ansätze, in denen unterschiedliche Verarbeitungsformen beschrieben werden. Wenn er die Menge der zur Verfügung stehenden Kapazität vorhersagen kann, kann der Informationsdesigner auch die Art und Weise abschätzen, in der die aufgenommenen Informationen vom Nutzer verarbeitet werden. Das bietet ihm die Möglichkeit, das Informationsangebot entsprechend den Besonderheiten dieser Verarbeitung zu gestalten.
