Zusammenfassung

Im April 1999 töteten Eric Harris und Dylan Klebold, zwei Schüler der Columbine-Highschool in Littleton im U.S.-Staat Colorado, ein Dutzend Schüler und einen Lehrer und verletzten 23 weitere Personen. So schrecklich dieser Vorfall war: Es hätte noch viel schlimmer kommen können. Die beiden Jugendlichen, die das Massaker monatelang sorgfältig geplant hatten, hatten 95 Sprengladungen vorbereitet, die wegen eines elektronischen Fehlers nicht hochgingen. Ein Satz Sprengkörper war ein paar Meilen von der Schule entfernt platziert und sollte explodieren, um die Polizei abzulenken, während Harris und Klebold den Angriff auf die Schule ausführten. Der zweite Sprengsatz sollte in der Cafeteria hochgehen, viele Schülerinnen und Schüler töten und andere zwingen, auf den Schulhof zu fliehen, wo Harris und Klebold in ihrem Versteck warten und sie niederschießen wollten. Der dritte Sprengsatz war in den Autos der Mörder auf dem Schulparkplatz angebracht. Er war so eingestellt, dass er explodierten sollte, nachdem Polizei und Sanitäter eingetroffen waren, um Chaos und noch mehr Tote zu verursachen.
