Zusammenfassung
Spinale Tumoren sind seltener als intrakranielle und histologisch häufig gutartig. Bei der Mehrzahl aller Wirbelsäulentumoren handelt es sich um Metastasen primär extravertebraler Tumoren. Die Einförmigkeit der Symptomatik beruht darauf, dass das Rückenmark in seinen Kerngebieten und Bahnsystemen verhältnismäßig einfach gebaut ist und nur einen geringen Durchmesser hat. Auf Grund des begrenzten intraspinalen Raums können spinale Tumoren bei zunehmendem Progress zu rasch progredienten neurologischen Defiziten führen, und ohne eine unverzügliche, meist operative Therapie, ein Querschnittsyndrom verursachen. Bleiben raumfordernde spinale Prozesse unerkannt, führen auch gutartige Tumoren zur Querschnittlähmung.
