Die Elektrophorese ist eine Trennmethode, die im analytischen und auch im präparativen Maßstab durchgeführt werden kann. Der Wortteil „-phor“ ist dem Griechischen entlehnt und bedeutet „tragen“. Das Wort „Elektro-“ bedeutet hingegen, dass die Methode durch Anlegen einer elektrischen Spannung betrieben wird.
