Clinical Management of Hip Arthroplasty

Practical Guide for the Use of Ceramic Implants

Abstract

Ceramic implants (BIOLOX, CeramTec, Plochingen) have become established as the accepted standard of treatment for hip arthroplasty because of the outstanding outcomes associated with their use. Over the last four decades more than 10 million ceramic implants have been implanted worldwide. Today there is consensus that the problem of osteolysis induced by wear particles can be resolved effectively using ceramic femoral ball heads in articulation with ceramic and polyethylene inserts.
