Zusammenfassung

Sehr häufig werden Frauen ungewollt schwanger oder möchten eine primär gewollte Schwangerschaft beenden. Ein chirurgischer Schwangerschaftsabbruch ist der häufigste chirurgische Eingriff in der Gynäkologie/Geburtshilfe. Für viele betroffene Frauen/Paare stellt die Beendigung der ungewollten Schwangerschaft eine Lösung einer akut schwierigen Lebenssituation dar. Mehr als die Hälfte der Frauen hat bereits eines oder mehrere Kinder und trifft die Entscheidung für den Abbruch auf der konkreten Erfahrung von einem Leben mit Kind. Für einige wenige Frauen ist die Abgabe des Kindes nach der Geburt eine Lösung, z. B. im Rahmen einer anonymen Geburt.

Die gute Betreuung dieser Patientinnen stellt besondere emotionale Herausforderungen an das Fachpersonal und findet in einem angespannten Klima öffentlicher Wahrnehmung statt. Trotzdem ist die bestmögliche Betreuung und Behandlung von Frauen mit einer ungewollten Schwangerschaft ein integraler Bestandteil des Faches Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe.
