Abstract
William G. Lycan (born on 26 September 1945) is an American philosopher who has made relevant contributions to a range of philosophical fields, including philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, epistemology, and metaphysics. Lycan earned his MA in 1967 and PhD in 1970, both from the University of Chicago. He taught at the Ohio State University until 1982, when he joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where he is the current William Rand Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor. Lycan has also a co-appointment at the University of Connecticut.
