Abstract
Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) has been used extensively and effectively to detect the source of obscure gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding [1]. The possible role of capsule endoscopy in the setting of the emergency department (ED) has received scant attention, but emerging data have demonstrated that the early use of VCE in patients with obscure GI bleeding improves diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes and shortens the length of hospital stay. Studies have also demonstrated that capsule endoscopy may be useful for diagnosis of erosive esophagitis in patients with noncardiac chest pain.
The work was first published in 2006 by Springer Medizin Verlag Heidelberg with the following title: Atlas of Video Capsule Endoscopy.
