Abstract

Anal fistula and haemorrhoids are two of the most common anal conditions encountered by surgeons worldwide. While advancement in science and technology has improved the outcomes in various medical and surgical fields, its effectiveness in the field of proctology remained debatable. Lay-open fistulotomy and excisional haemorrhoidectomy are still frequently performed for these conditions currently. This article aims to evaluate the efficacy of the various scientific and technological innovations that were designed with the specific intention to improve the outcomes in the management of anal fistula and haemorrhoids.
