Zusammenfassung

Die operative Versorgung von Hernien zählt mit über 200.000 Eingriffen jährlich zu den häufigsten chirurgischen Eingriffen in Deutschland. Sie macht bis zu 15% der allgemeinchirurgischen Operationen aus. Zwar gelten Hernienoperationen in der Regel als Ausbildungseingriffe, jedoch sind sie durchaus nicht als trivial anzusehen. Dies wird durch gravierende und für den Patienten unter Umständen mit ernsten Langzeitfolgen sowie eingeschränkter Lebensqualität behaftete Komplikationen verdeutlicht, deren adäquates Management einen essenziellen Bestandteil der medizinischen Behandlung darstellt.
