Abstract

Chapter 1 introduced the main problem we address through the research reported in this study, including the motivation, research methodology (observations, hypotheses and expected results) and the main contributions of our work. In this chapter we provide some background in-formation regarding the paradigms, concepts and algorithms that were relevant for the research work we have done namely, Multi-Agent Systems, Automated Negotiation, Reinforcement Learning and Problem Solving Algorithms. It is not our intention to provide a full description of such subjects but only the necessary information for the reader to understand these scientific topics and the rationale that made us to use them.
