Die Antigenfunktionen und die serologischen Reaktionen der Virusarten in vitro

  • Chapter
Handbuch der Virusforschung

Abstract

In a number of virus infections antibodies are developed which produce specific in vitro reactions with the causal virus or with extracts derived from infected tissue. These reactions include agglutination of virus particles, precipitation of soluble antigens, and complement-fixation reactions with either type of antigen. In referring to these reactions the term “aggregation reaction” will be used to include agglutination and precipitation reactions. “S. S. S.” or “soluble specific substance” will be employed to denote soluble antigens. This term, employed by Salaman (2) and by Burnet, Keogh and Lush, will be used without any implication regarding the nature of these substances.
