Zusammenfassung
Will man die Zahl der Individuen im Kubikzentimeter einer Bakterien-suspension bestimmen, so stehen folgende Methoden zur Verfügung:
-
1.
Die direkte mikroskopische Auszählung in einem abgemessenen Teilquantum;
-
2.
die Messung des Trübungsgrades (Nephelometer, Tyndallmeter, Densitometer usw.);
-
3.
die Aussaat abgemessener Teilquanten auf geeignete Nährböden und die Auszählung der sich entwickelnden Kolonien;
-
4.
die Titrierung durch fortschreitende Verdünnung, d. h. die Ermittlung der höchsten Verdünnung, durch welche noch eine bestimmte, von der Anwesenheit lebender Bakterien abhängige Wirkung (Infektion eines empfänglichen Tieres, Gasbildung durch Fermentation von Traubenzucker, Trübung flüssiger Nährböden durch Bakterienwachstum usw.) erzielt werden kann.
