Abstract

In a broad sense, picture or image processing means the manipulation of multi-dimensional signals (which are functions of several variables). Examples of multi-dimensional signals include television images, reconnaissance photographs, medical X-ray pictures, electronmicrographs of molecules, radar and sonar maps, and seismic data.
