Summary

After a short survey of the physiology of normal lymphatic circulation the author discusses the development of lymphedema due to mechanical and dynamic insufficiency in the sense of “low and high lymph flow failures” and he then subdivides lymphedema into primary-idiopathic and secondary consecutive forms. In order to differentiate these forms the author uses various examination techniques such as lymphangiography, histological examination of lymphvessels removed at biopsy, histochemical methods and indirect lymphography by means of radioactive isotopes and he also demonstrates their value.
