Summary
-
1.
The stimulating action of biogenic substances having pharmacological activity was quantitatively determined on the isolated infundibulum of human Fallopian tube, and compared with their action on the isolated guineapig ileum.
-
2.
Oxytocin, bradykinin, kallidin, angiotensin, and noradrenaline were practically inactive. The affinity and intrinsic activity of 5-hydroxytryptamine, hist-amine, and acetylcholine were very low. Prostaglandin F2α had a high affinity but a low activity.
-
3.
Affinity and activity were highest for the “tachykinins” eledoisin, physalaemin, substance P, and two synthetic analogs of eledoisin. Met-Lys-bradykinin was of lower potency. There are indications of a relationship between chemical structure of the peptides and their action on the Fallopian tube.
-
4.
The sensitivity of the human Fallopian tube for tachykinins and prostaglandin F2α is so high that such compounds could play a physiological role in humoral activation of the tube during ovulation.
-
5.
Corresponding work on isolated Fallopian tubes of guinea-pig, rat, rabbit, cat, pig and sheep revealed different sensitivities for biogenic stimulants. Only the rabbit Fallopian Tube reacted to eledoisin.
Zusammenfassung
-
1.
