Coronary and Left Ventricular Dynamics under Nifedipine in Comparison to Nitrates, Beta-Blocking Agents and Dipyridamole

  • Chapter
2nd International Adalat® Symposium

Abstract

Relief from angina pectoris, i.e. improvement of myocardial ischemia by means of medication, can be achieved in at least two ways:

  1. 1.

by reducing the oxygen demand of the myocardium in general, thereby lessening the need for an increase in flow in the poststenotic, potentially ischemic areas of the myocardium, and

  2. 2.

by increasing flow, mainly collateral flow to the ischemic area.
