Short-distance gamma beam therapy

As an extension of the surface application of radium, treatment by “radium at a distance” was introduced more than fifty years ago. By this method a larger percentage depth dose could be produced and more deeply seated lesions became accessible for irradiation by the hard gamma rays from radium.
