The Patient’s Physical and Behavioral Self

  • Chapter
Determinants of the Nurse-Patient Relationship

Abstract

Nurses are often called upon to take care of patients whose diagnoses have not yet been established and whose capacities for experience, or lack of it, cannot be ascertained at first sight. These are frequently newly admitted patients, some of whom may come under the nurse’s care even before they have been seen by a physician and thus there are no doctor’s orders to guide her approach. Sometimes they are patients who have developed another condition or complications during the course of their original illnesses.
