Abstract

Generally in clinical practice only the total plasma concentration of anti-epileptic drugs and not the unbound fraction is measured. For highly protein bound drugs as DPH(Diphenylhydantoin) this would be sufficient if the proportion of the unbound fraction is nearly the same in all patients. But large and small variations in the extent of DPH plasma protein binding have been reported.
