Abstract

The following peptides were inactive in the non-stimulated isolated vas deferens but increased the twitch due to field stimulation in a dose-dependent manner (mean pD2 values): an-giotensin II amide (A II: 8.1), substance P (SP: 7.8), bradykinin (B: 7.1). The same effects of acetylcholine (6.4) and carbachol (6.5) were antagonized by atropine (pA2 8.0), but the peptide effects were resistant. The specific A II antagonist sar1-ala8-A II left the twitch response unchanged and antagonized competitively (pA2 7.52) the twitch-enhancing effect of A II but not that of SP and B.
