Nach den 1976 von einer internationalen Arbeitsgruppe aufgestellten Richtlinien zur Nomenklatur und Diagnostik von Lebererkrankungen ist die chronische Hepatitis als mindestens sechs Monate andauernde Leberentzündung ohne Rückbildungstendenz definiert [4].
