Effects of wine on the interpersonal behavior of geriatric patients: An exploratory study

  • Chapter

Abstract

There is a popular notion that institutionalized aged people enjoy each other’s company, enjoy swapping nostalgic stories and philosophizing upon the state of the world. Unfortunately, the more typical situation is that of social impoverishment. The virtual absence of interpersonal behavior among peers has been observed repeatedly in geriatric wards and other settings in which aged people are institutionalized. The dearth of peer interaction is sometimes tantamount to no human interaction at all, as such forgotten places often lack a staff that is adequate in size, training and relevant motivation, hence, in useful accessibility to the elderly residents they serve.
