Abstract

The literature summary presented endeavors to summarize and collate the direct and indirect effects of the triazine herbicides on the plant metabolism which have been observed to date. The most obvious activity of the triazines is, of course, the inhibition of photosynthesis. Triazines, like phenylureas, carbamates, and acylanilides, are well-known potent inhibitors of the electron transfer process in photosynthesis with the inhibition site located in the area of the second light reaction. The herbicide activity of the triazines is directly related to their intervention in photosynthesis. Plant physiological processes which are connected indirectly with photosynthesis as stomatal movement, transpiration, ion movement, and many other energy-dependent reactions are influenced also.
