Functional Anatomy of the Perisellar Region

  • Chapter
Pituitary Chromophobe Adenomas

Abstract

In terms of clinical comprehensiveness it seems unwise to distinguish too strictly between the morphology of the structures of the region into which chromophobe adenomas may extend and the physiology of its constituents. This chapter describes the functional anatomy of the perisellar structures which may become compressed or stretched by an expanding pituitary tumor. Often we shift the descriptive focus from an anatomic to a functional one, following what seems most relevant to the explanation of the development of symptoms.
