Abstract
This chapter reviews evidence on gender and racial difference; in psychological well-being and presents a framework that can be used to explain why such differences exist. At the onset, it may be helpful to define how the phrase psychological well-being will be used, because gerontologists have included a diverse array of constructs under the general rubric of well-being.
