Alors que la deshalogénation de nombreux dérivés bromes et chlorés par les tissus animaux est connue depuis assez longtemps1, la connaissance des enzyme capables de désioder les acides aminés iodés naturels est plus récente2. Ces enzymes sont de deux types différents :

L’iodotyrosine-désiodase*** présente dans la glande thyroïde et de nombreux tissus tels que foie, rein, pancréas est spécifique des iodotyrosines [3-iodo-L-tyrosine (MIT) et 3:5-di-iodo-L-tyrosine (DIT)], localisée dans la fraction microsomale des homogénats cellulaires et nécessitant le triphosphopyridinenucléotide réduit3,4 (TPNH).

L’iodoihyronine-désiodase (ou thyroxine-désiodase) ****, présente dans le foie, le rein, les muscles squelettiques et cardiaque, le cerveau5 mais absente du corps thyroïde, est localisée dans les mitochondries6, assez spécifique des iodothyronines [L-thyroxine (T4) et 3:5:3’-tri-iodo-L-thyronine (T3)] et activée spécifiquement par les fia vines [flavine mononucleotide (FMN), flavineadénine dinucléotide (FAD) et riboflavine]. Il a pu être obtenu récemment sous forme soluble6,7.
