Energy Cost Management in Water Supply

Summary

Past research on leakage control and pumping system optimisation is already making big contributions to energy cost management. Current studies show that direct improvement of of pump and motor efficiency will offer large returns on investment provided that investigation costs are contained. Cheap, accurate measurement of efficiency is important and the thermodynamic method is therefore being developed for use in a Water Industry context. Low-cost methods of improving pump and motor efficiency are being studied. Investigation strategies are being developed and the existing implementation programme adapted to incorporate pumpset efficiency opportunities.
