Abstract

The diploid number of 84 with 68 one-arm and 16 two-arm chromosomes with an arm number of 100 represents the modal condition for this species. The arm number is probably constant, but Robertsonian variation in chromosome number and types occurs at the intraindividual as well as interindividual level. Chromosome numbers ranging from 82 to 88 with a constant arm number of 100 have been found in primary cell cultures. The karyotype consists of a wide range of chromosome sizes, but there are no obvious groupings. Chromosomal sexual dimorphism has not been observed.
