Abstract
The pituitary-adrenocortical system and the sympathetic nervous system with the adrenal medulla are involved in the adaptation of the organism to any form of injury, including responses to endotoxins. Changes in the concentrations of corticosteroids and catecholamines in response to an endotoxin have been noted (for references see 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12). However, it is not yet known to what extent the fluctuations observed in the concentrations of the adrenal hormones are directly responsible for the consequences and course of endotoxin intoxication.
