Renal blood flow and renal clearances during hemorrhage and hemorrhagic shock

  • Chapter
Shock

Abstract

We have been interested for some time in the changes in renal blood flow and renal clearance which occur during a standardized hemorrhagic shock procedure in the anesthetized dog (1). Fig. 1 shows the average trends in a group of five animals which showed comparable effects. The procedure was to bleed to 60 mm. Hg and to hold pressure here for 90 minutes. Then followed further bleeding to about 40 mm. Hg for an additional 45 minutes, whereupon blood was retransfused. The average of the blood pressure changes is shown at the top.
