Zusammenfassung
Vibrionen werden beim Menschen, bei Tieren und im Wasser als frei lebende Mikroorganismen angetroffen. Neben den Choleravibrionen, die bei natürlichem Infektionsmodus nur für den Menschen pathogen sind, gibt es einige Species, die
bei Rindern, Schafen, Schweinen, Hühnern und Fischen nachgewiesen werden und deren Pathogenität für einige Tiere bekannt ist. Alle diese Mikroorganismen werden in der Familie VII Spirillaceae der Ordnung I Pseudomonadales und der Klasse Schizomycetes zusammengefaßt (Bergey, 1957). Vibrionen sind gramnegative, kurze, leicht gebogene, kommaförmige Mikroorganismen, deren Länge mit 1,5–5,0 μ und deren Breite mit 0,2–0,5 μ angegeben wird. Die einzeln liegenden oder zu einer Wendelform vereinigten Bakterien sind beweglich und zeigen gewöhnlich eine einzelne, polar angeordnete, relativ kurze Geißel. Das Sauerstoffbedürfnis der Vibrionen gestattet eine grobe Einteilung in aerobe, mikroaerophile und anaerobe Arten (Bergey, 1957). Die aeroben Vertreter stellen in der Regel keine besonderen Ansprüche an ihr Nährmedium, während mikroaerophile und anaerobe Arten für ihre Vermehrung spezielle Zusätze zum Nährsubstrat benötigen, wie Blut, Serum oder Ascitesflüssigkeit. Zur weiteren Einteilung der Vibrionen wird die Überprüfung der Stoffwechselleistungen, die Untersuchung serologischer Eigenschaften und das Verhalten im Tierexperiment herangezogen. Die Einordnung aller für tierexperimentelle Untersuchungen verwendeten Arten in die bei Bergey (1957) angegebene Systematik ist nicht möglich. Bei Bergey (1957) sind nur 34 Arten aufgeführt, während die Zahl der anerkannten Species im Index Bergeyana (1966) bereits 170 beträgt.
