Résumé

Dans la précédente édition du Handbuch der Physik, il n’existait pas d’étude d’ensemble sur le spectre infrarouge. Les articles spécialisés, où il en était question, à diverses reprises, se trouvent complètement dépassés par le développement des études and des applications de ce domaine spectral, qui ont été réalisées au cours de ces dix dernières années, and qui justifient pleinement la rédaction de ce chapitre. On n’y trouvera d’ailleurs pas tout ce qui concerne le domaine infrarouge, le plan général de l’ouvrage ayant laissé en dehors de nos attributions la partie infrarouge concernant par exemple la polarisation rotatoire naturelle ou magnétique, l’effet Kerr, les spectres d’émission sous leurs différentes formes, etc.
