Zusammenfassung

Das somatrotrope Hormon (STH, menschliches Wachstumshormon; englisch: human growth hormone, HGH) wird im Hypophysenvorderlappen gebildet. Es ist ein Polypeptid, das aus 191 Aminosäuren besteht und ein Molekulargewicht von rund 22000 Dalton besitzt. Das Hormon ist im Plasma oder Serum unter normalen Bedingungen in einer Konzentration von 0–5 μg/ml enthalten. Der STH-Spiegel wird durch eine Reihe von Faktoren (z.B. Streß, Hypoglykämie, Östrogene, Corticosteroide, L-Dopa) beeinflußt. Ein geschlechtsspezifischer Unterschied besteht nur in geringem Maß, wobei Frauen höhere Werte aufweisen als Männer (2).
