Zusammenfassung

Auf Syphilis angewendet, ist die Bezeichnung Endemie nur dann zulässig, wenn die Krankheit innerhalb eines bestimmt begrenzten Zeitraums auftritt und sich auf einen größeren oder kleineren Landesteil oder ein einzelnes Land beschränkt, wenn ferner die Krankheit plötzlich in Erscheinung tritt und sich in allen Schichten der Bevölkerung, ohne Ansehen von Stellung, Geschlecht und Alter, verbreitet, wenn der Ursprung der Krankheit rätselhaft ist oder wenigstens erst nach einiger Zeit näher bestimmt werden kann und sich dann zeigt, daß beim ersten Auftreten zwar wie gewöhnlich der genitale Ansteckungsweg in Betracht kommt, die weitere Verbreitung jedoch hauptsächlich extragenital erfolgt1.
