Zusammenfassung

Die spätsyphilitischen Knochenveränderungen wurden zuerst 1514 von Vigo beschrieben. Andere ältere Autoren: Alexander Benediktus 1528, Vidus Vidius 1550, Fallopia 1577 erwähnen die Gummigeschwülste und die Hyperostosen, die Caries und Nekrose. Grundlegend war eine Arbeit von Virchow über die Natur der konstitutionell syphilitischen Affektionen, in der die verschiedensten Äußerungen der Knochensyphilis mit Ausnahme der gummösen Osteomyelitis, die Ricord 1851 bereits genauer geschildert hatte, die Virchow aber damals noch nicht gesehen, dargestellt wurden.
