Zusammenfassung
Zu den grundlegenden Fälligkeiten lebender Organismen gehört auch die der Beweglichkeit, wobei eine Fülle der verschiedensten Bewegungsformen mit unterschiedlichsten Einrichtungen erreicht wird. Hier soll nur von den Muskeln die Rede sein, wie sie der höhere Organismus entwickelt hat, und bei welchen es sich um Gebilde besonderer Struktur handelt, die im Leben befähigt sind, sich in der Längsrichtung zusammenzuziehen und wieder zu erschlaffen. Es findet sich je nach den besonderen Aufgaben eine Spezialisierung in quergestreifte, glatte und Herzmuskeln: Diese Muskeln unterscheiden sich sowohl in ihrem Bau wie in ihrer Funktionsweise.
