Abstract

I was very interested by Dr. Gregg’s findings concerning the regional blood flow changes occurring in conscious dogs upon bleeding and in the shock which subsequently develops. In many respects these data coincide with results arrived at in our laboratory in studies, performed during the last few years, concerning the patterns of vasoconstrictor fibre discharge elicited when the medullary vasomotor centre is exposed to different excitatory and inhibitory central and reflex influences (see Folkow 1960, 1961). It might therefore be of interest in this connection to present a brief survey of some of these results insofar as they have a bearing on the reflex cardiovascular adjustments taking place in hypotension and established shock conditions.
